AVID

Objectives

6th Grade: Students build the foundation of the AVID system by learning organization, note-taking, and collaboration routines. They are introduced to inquiry through guided questioning, practice basic annotation and summarizing, and begin developing academic habits. Students also gain initial exposure to college and career vocabulary and start setting simple goals for their future.

7th Grade: Students strengthen and apply AVID strategies with greater independence. They refine their organization and note-taking, develop higher-level questioning skills, and participate more actively in tutorials. Reading and writing become more analytical, and students begin connecting their academic performance to college and career exploration through research and goal setting.

8th Grade: Students demonstrate independence and leadership in using AVID strategies to prepare for high school. They generate rigorous questions, lead tutorials, and engage in deeper analysis of texts and tasks. Students take ownership of their academic progress while developing a clear plan for high school and future college and career pathways.
